Describe what you do and why it’s important in one sentence.
We map atoms in 3D to discover how they control properties like strength or superconductivity.

What’s something you do every day to be more productive?
Focus on the big picture and how the small tasks will make it happen.

At what point did you know you were subscribing yourself to a career in materials science, the study of atoms?
When I realised how much ‘black magic’ still exists in materials manufacturing and how incredible the impact new advances in materials can be.

Why do you think it’s so important for Australians abroad to remain connected to each other and Australia as a country?
Generally, because you have shared challenges and ambitions. It’s great to know people who are on similar, yet separate, journeys.

What does winning the 2017 Advance Global Australian Advanced Manufacturing Award mean to you?
It means communicating that Australia can both perform world-class science and convert it into a useful technology.

Tell us something that people wouldn’t otherwise know about you?
This is just invention number 1. There’s more to come.

What’s the first thing you do after returning to Australia?
Enjoy a great coffee, then catch up with friends & family.
