I research why we grow old and develop drugs to treat diseases of aging in order to keep people healthier for longer.

Determination and surrounding yourself with amazing people who share your vision.

What’s the most challenging or rewarding aspect of your job?
Balancing work with family is challenging. Seeing teams of smart people transform the world is rewarding.

What was your response to being listed as one of the most 100 influential people in the world by TIME magazine?
Now I need to earn it.

Why is it important for Australians to have a global community while living overseas?
Australians can have a bigger impact with a global network and spread our unique culture.

What does winning the 2017 Advance Global Australian Life Sciences Award mean to you?
It is an incredible honour and an opportunity to share what I have learned.

The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable, by Nassim Nicholas Taleb.

What’s the first thing you do after returning to Australia after a period of time away?
Take in the blue sky, sunshine, and eucalyptus-laden air.

One of the former companies you founded was focused on research around anti-aging components in red wine. Is it true that red wine is good for you?
Yes, it is true. In addition to justify imbibing, we can use that knowledge to develop drugs that cure diseases.
